Digitalweld…

For over three decades, Auckland-based Digitalweld Ltd has supplied New Zealand’s industries with advanced welding technologies and “dependable technical support”.

Founded in 1993 under the name Eutectic NZ Ltd, the company initially operated in partnership with the Messer Eutectic+Castolin Group. That partnership came to a close in 2005, marking a new chapter for the business under its current name.

Now fully independent, Digitalweld is a 100% New Zealand-owned family business that continues to evolve while holding to the same core principles it was built on. General manager Darren Sharpe, formerly of Machinery House, now leads the company’s operations. He works alongside siblings Jason and Debra, the children of company founder Don Whale, who has since retired from day-to-day management.

Speaking about the business’s transition and ongoing direction, Sharpe says the team’s focus remains clear: “We want to support New Zealand’s welding and fabrication industries with not only the best gear but also with genuine service and advice – the sort that builds lasting relationships.”

Core offerings and global partnerships

Digitalweld offers an extensive range of welding and cutting solutions, from heavy fabrication and engineering applications to niche maintenance and repair operations. Its product suite includes welding machines, oxy-fuel cutting systems, safety equipment, and specialised consumables – all backed by technical consultation and after-sales support.

The company is a New Zealand and Pacific Islands distributor for several respected international brands, including voestalpine Böhler Welding, Binzel, Messer Cutting Systems, Eutectic+Castolin and Fronius. These relationships give Digitalweld’s customers access to cutting-edge technologies while retaining the benefit of local service and inventory.

“Our partnerships give customers the best of both worlds,” says Sharpe. “We supply trusted international products, but we’re right here in Auckland when clients need support, demos, or repairs.”

A critical aspect of the business is its in-house service centre. Staffed by factory-trained technicians, the facility offers machine diagnostics, servicing, and repairs. The team also provides training and on-site demonstrations to ensure customers are confident in the systems they purchase.

Service ‘First, always’

Digitalweld’s reputation is anchored in its ability to respond quickly and effectively to customer needs. From individual tradespeople to large industrial clients, the company supports a wide cross-section of users, with solutions tailored to fit project scale and technical requirements.

Visitors to Digitalweld’s Wiri facility can access product demonstrations and consultations before committing to a purchase – an approach the company says adds tangible value to its offering. “We encourage people to come in and try equipment,” Sharpe explains. “Seeing how a machine performs on-site gives our customers confidence that it’s right for their job.”

With a clear emphasis on technical know-how, practical support, and long-term partnerships, Digitalweld remains a “trusted name across New Zealand’s welding sector.” And while the business honours its legacy, the team is also preparing for the next phase. “We’re working closely with our suppliers to introduce a new range of welding and safety gear,” Sharpe confirms. “There’s more to come.”
