Emerson has released the Branson Polaris ultrasonic welding platform, a configurable system designed to support joining processes across a wide range of manufacturing applications.
The platform combines power supplies, controllers and actuators with varying levels of functionality and software capability, allowing systems to be configured for applications ranging from development and laboratory trials through to fully automated production lines.
The system is designed to integrate control and process capability within a single platform, with connectivity across the factory floor and real-time control of welding operations. It is intended to support applications across automotive components, medical devices, consumer electronics, food packaging, appliances, bioplastics and textiles.
Kerryn Harrington, global product manager for Branson Ultrasonics at Emerson, says the platform is designed to meet changing production requirements.
“Today’s manufacturers need ultrasonic welding systems that are as adaptable and advanced as they are. They need an automated platform that seamlessly integrates into manufacturing environments and can be updated over time to align with changing requirements.”
The Polaris platform can be deployed as a benchtop system for development, proof of concept and validation, then scaled for use in automated production lines. Optional features can reduce system footprint, increase data storage and support secure connectivity across enterprise networks.
Integration with higher-level control systems, including programmable logic controllers, allows monitoring and control of process conditions, supporting efficiency, reliability and precision.
By accessing real-time data, operators can adjust control parameters and recipes during operation, supporting process stability and overall equipment effectiveness. In regulated environments, recorded performance data can also support validation requirements.
Harrington says the platform has been developed as a configurable system for a wide range of applications.
“In response, Emerson engineers designed the Branson Polaris Ultrasonic Welding Platform as a configurable scalable solution that meets exacting needs across a wide range of applications – from simple components to FDA-approved products – now and in the future.”
The platform allows engineers to select individual components or work with Emerson to develop application-specific systems, supported by technical services across the lifecycle of the equipment.
