New course prepares workers for electrical supervision

Skills Trades Training has launched a course for registered electrical workers seeking an Electrical Workers Registration Board (EWRB) Endorsed Supervision registration class, following changes to supervision requirements that took effect on September 1, 2026.

The Supervision of Prescribed Electrical Work course is designed for registered electrical workers responsible for, or preparing to oversee, more than two people carrying out prescribed electrical work.

The changes introduced Endorsed Supervision registration classes for Electricians, Electrical Installers, Electrical Service Technicians and Electrical Appliance Servicepersons.

Skills Trades Training director Di Lithgow says the new course provides a practical way for experienced electrical workers to prepare for greater supervisory responsibility.

“For many experienced electrical workers, moving into supervision is a natural next step in their career, but supervising others brings additional responsibilities.

“It’s important that people understand what is expected of them, particularly when they are responsible for trainees or others carrying out prescribed electrical work.

“This course gives them the knowledge and practical evidence to support their application for an EWRB Supervision endorsement.”

The course combines four self-directed online modules with a one-day workshop at a Skills Trades Training campus, followed by a supervision evidence portfolio developed from the learner’s own on-job supervision.

It is designed for registered electrical workers with a current practising licence, including leading hands, site supervisors and those responsible for trainees on Limited Certificates.

Upon completion, participants receive a certificate and a tutor-checked portfolio ready to submit as part of their EWRB Supervision endorsement application.
